Victron Multi Plus 2 Connections and Charging

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this question has been asked before.

I have a single-phase house with a 10 kW solar panel system connected to my main switchboard. Currently, the system is exporting around 15 kW per day. I also get 3 hours of free energy from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM where I live.

I recently bought a Victron Multiplus 2 and a 400Ah 48V battery. I have a couple of questions, and I would really appreciate any advice:

  1. Charging the Battery:
  • I want the Victron system to prioritize charging my battery when the solar has spare power before exporting to the grid.
  • Additionally, I’d like the battery to be fully charged from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM using grid power, regardless of the solar production, since it’s free energy.
  1. Using the Battery:
  • I want to use my battery to power the house when there is no solar power available.
  1. Connection to the House:
  • How should I connect the Victron to my house? I asked my old-school sparky, but he doesn’t have any idea.
  • Should I connect the Victron output directly to the main switchboard? If I do this, I want to avoid exporting power from the battery to the grid.
  1. Using a Shelly Pro 3EM:
  • I plan to use a Shelly Pro 3EM to monitor the exported power.
  • If the export is more than 2000W, I want to turn on the charger to charge the battery.
  • If the solar generation drops below 1000W, I’d like the ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) to disconnect from the grid and switch to battery power.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of setup, or can recommend the best approach for connecting the Victron and managing the charging/discharging process?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

Multies are rated in VA check max loads

1.1 Read up on ESS etc

1.2 Scheduled charging does that
2.1 ESS
3. Check net for wiring diags Read up on 1:1 rule wehere to place PV feed in
4. NodeRed or external scripting … but ESS will support charging with any excess up to max charging setting and also automatically use bat power to supplement no need to use ATS
