Victron Connect App on Android Auto

I’ve been testing Android Auto features of Victron Connect App but the app keeps crashing.

I’m testing it with Victron Smart Shunt 300A C038 inside a portable battery box. When I start the App on Android Auto, the shunt is detected and the Shunt data is displayed. After about 30 seconds the shunt no longer displays data and the App crashes.

I’ve tried it on both my phone and my wife’s phone and behaviour is the same. I’ve tried reinstalling the app, forgetting and repairing the shunt. I’ve tried putting the battery box closer to the phone. Same thing happens every time.

Does anyone have any tips or experience to help me?

We will look into this.

Could you please let us know which phone model you are using and Android version?

The SmartShunt disappearing from the list may happen when the data is very stable, for example if the battery is not being charged or discharged and the voltage stays constant. In this situation, the app may assume that the shunt is no longer sending updates.

Could this be the case? We are working on improving this behaviour.

My phone is Samsung Galaxy Note 20 (Android 13). My wife’s is Samsung Galaxy S24 (Android 16). Both phones have the latest version of Victron Connect. The Shunt has the latest firmware.

The battery was being charged while I was testing Victron Connect so I could monitor changes. (It may be worth noting that the shunt wasn’t well synced - it was reading 100% SOC even though there was an 8A charging current)

I also have a Smart Solar controller that I can connect to a battery box to check the Victron app on Android Auto (I have another battery box without a shunt so I can eliminate the possibility that the problem is related to the shunt).

Update:

It appears to be a problem with the shunt. When I attach the SmartSolar MPPT 75/15 to the battery box that has the shunt, both devices are detected and show on Android Auto but after half a minute or so the shunt disappears from the device list. The SmartSolar remains on the list and seems to be displayed correctly.

It only seems to be on Android Auto that the shunt disappears. When viewing device list directly on the phone there are no issues with the shunt.

FYI, shunt serial number is HQ2439CETJW. Firmware version v4 19. Currently Bluetooth GATT service is off (I have no idea what that is so I will be googling that)

Cheers

Alan

Indeed, the issue appears to be in the Android Auto implementation. We will work on improving this as soon as possible. Thank you for sharing your findings.

Thankyou @jperez

I suspect there may be an issue with the shunt firmware too. I recently installed a widget for the shunt and I’ve noticed the widget doesn’t update. (I will install a widget for the MPPT and compare it’s behaviour to the shunt widget)
