Victron 12/12 Orion 30 Tr Smart Install

installing on a travel trailer with a 200 AH LiPO4 battery, to charge the battery with the F250 diesel alternator while driving.

When hookup up to shore power, the battery charging line also provides 13.7 V to charge the battery.

When installing the converter in the travel trailer, can I connect the shore power charging wire to the input terminal as well as the alternator power supply wire? or should i buy a switch to isolate one from the other? or the shore power charging line should not be connected at all?

I realize that 99% of the time, the truck or the shore power will be used, but not both. the 1% of the time they both may be live when docking or undocking from the campground, and the truck is still running and connected.

Thanks for the technical help.

To be clear, the Orion-Tr Smart does not connect to your alternator, it connects to your start battery on the input, and your leisure battery on the output. I’m not 100% sure if that is what you were indicating, but the term “alternator power supply wire” worried me a bit. No wires from the alternator - it’s a battery-to-battery charger, and requires a battery on the input.

Likewise, the wiring from your shore power charger should go to the battery, not the Orion-Tr Smart.
