I am looking to validate if/how the Victron Orion IP67 DC to DC Converter will operate when connected directly to a 100W solar panel as it powers a 12V dc fan. Looking over the data sheet for the Orion, it appears to have an input range of 15-40v, and the 100W panel has the following values (Vmp 18.8v, lmp 5.32A, Voc 22.56v, lsc 5.85v). I have tested a buck converter off of amazon that had a 9v-30v input range and it seemed to work fine, but I wanted to use quality components that I trust.
I would suspect that the Orion should work fine as the panel would output 18-22v, but wasn’t sure how the Orion would react if the voltage drops below the 13V shutdown due to clouds. Would it just start working again when the sun comes back up and pushes the panel output past the 14V restart value?
