Two mppt controllers one array

In the past two mppt controllers on one array was a no no, but now they can master and slave is that still the case?

I dismissed it as a possibility until I was reminded of master/slave setting and I do have two battery banks, one small and one large, so a 100/15 and a 100/30 would charge both. One array, 70v ish 585 max solar output.

But I am adding to question as the mppt’s would be different sizes….would it work at all, would the 100/15 draw half the power until more than 15 amps was output or output voltage hit target or…..

Just a thought…

Wont work they will be in each others way

That was indeed the old problem that stopped it, but does the master slave arrangement not cause the slave to become dumb and just let the master set the optimum settings.

If that is true surely the slave would not “get in the way” of the master as it optimises?

Where are you getting this information?

I think you’re confused by smart networking where one is a master to control the charge algorithm. This does not mean you can share pv.
This is documented in the networking manual, under how charger synchronisation works.

Afraid it was assumption the mppt master slave was solar related not battery charge step related.

I see now I was wrong….
