Trying to connect Victron Multiplus ii GX to SolarEdge (purely for using the solaredge inline meter)

Hi everyone,

I currently have the following setup:

1x Victron Multiplus ii GX with PylonTech 4.8KW Battery

1x SolarEdge Home Hub SE10K with Solar Panels + Solar Edge Car Charger + Inline Meter

What I’d like to do is use the PylonTech battery to do some ESS shenanigans. Like charging if there’s too much solar and using the battery capacity when the sun is down.

So I found this guide: Integrating with SolarEdge [Victron Energy]

So I don’t fully understand all of the stuff mentioned here as a lot of talk is on the frequency shift stuff to influence each other. I don’t care about that, I just want to get the inline meter data into my Victron. I also don’t have a Modbus connection from the SolarEdge to the Victron as I’d expect modbus over TCP to be able to do this.

So I’ve been trying to follow the Modbus TCP steps in this guide, however, without success.

When I login to the unit and open Site Communication (I’m sorry for the dutch UI but I can’t seem to figure out how to change that):

When I open RS485-1 I can only add or delete the inline meter. There’s no way to set the protocol to sunset (as is done in the guide). (I even tried removing the meter but this didn’t change that fact).

For the RS485-2 I can in fact change the protocol to SunSpec logger:

I then added that device in Victron:

Which didn’t seem to do anything. I’m not sure where I can even find the logs in Victron. Anyone knows?

Initially I already used this setup to also read the SolarEdge data over Modbus to TCP on my Home Assistant setup. I read that you can only connect one device so I made sure to disconnect that one first.

What I also did was add a modbus proxy in between the devices so that I can also see a little more of what’s happening (and eventually integrate it in both Victron and Home Assistant). This shows the following (with home assistant disabled):

root@vm-modbusproxy:~/dockercomposers/modbusproxy# docker logs modbus-proxy --follow
[2026-01-19T21:35:52Z INFO modbus_proxy_rs] Ready to accept requests on 0:502 to 10.88.10.16:502

So something is at least being sent to the SolarEdge unit, but my feeling is, isn’t not replying correctly??

Can someone help me further here?
