Tracking Stolen GX Devices

Hi All,
Some of a customer’s gear was stolen.
Included were two (2) GX devices.
They’re on my VRM installation list so when I think of it I can check to see if they’re being used connected to the internet.
But I’m wondering if there’s a way to set an alert to send me a message if they come online…?
One is a Venus, the other the GX card in an EasySolar - if that makes any difference.
Cheers!
Diamond

As they should (if internet connected) pop up in your device list in VRM (and if they still show there) could you just set some (nonsensical) alarm on say battery volts (like 5v) so when connected it throws in an alarm that you can’t miss.

Don’t know if you can do this (to a not seen for xxx time or disappeared device) but I am sure someone else will jump in if not?? or with another suggestion.

I suppose the thieves are quite dumb if they’ll use them on the wild without modifying their serial numbers…

They will not be able to use them with VRM unless they have a means to remove the current installations (vrm portal id) or have access to the existing login details to do it. Cloning with another device won’t work as device cannot be registered more than once on vrm either so it can only ever serve as off-grid devices, even if they did a venus os re-install. The devices do not report location and cannot be tracked unless you have a GPS connected to it for geo location alerts. Cerbo privacy policy.

Hi @Diamond,

If you can, please notify your place of purchase that the unit was stolen.

Distributors can report stolen Serial Numbers to Victron Energy by sending an email to repairs@victronenergy.com

A “Stolen” Event is registered on the Serial Number History for that product in the Victron product history database.

If the unit is later found or otherwise recovered to the customer and reported to Victron again, a new “Recovered” event is created clearing the “Stolen” flag.

When a product marked as “Stolen” is reported to Victron (usually through an RMA, which will be rejected) the Service department informs the distributor of record for that unit via the Victron Sales Manager.

From there it is up to the customer and distributor to try and resolve it further or not.

Victron only acts as a register of the serial number through our RMA service network.
