Selecting the right components

Hello Victron Community,

I’m in the process of setting up an ESS/EMS system and would greatly appreciate your guidance. Here’s what I currently have:

  • Solar panels: 2x JA Solar JAM54S31-390/MR (Voc: 36.85V, Isc: 13.72A) 6x Jinko JKM440N-54HL4R-BK (Voc: 39.36V, Isc: 13.72A, 435Wp)
  • Battery: 1x Pylontech US5000 (48VDC)
  • Energy meter: 1x VM-3p75ct

The solar panels will be installed on a flat roof facing south for optimal exposure. My goal is to integrate this setup with the grid, allowing me to charge the batteries during low-price energy periods (e.g., with a dynamic energy contract). I’d like the entire system to be monitored and controlled via the Victron app.

In addition to recommendations for which Victron components to purchase, I’d also like advice on how to best connect my solar panels (series, parallel, or a combination) to ensure compatibility with the system and maximize efficiency.

Thank you so much for your help!

A 150/35 mppt - because thats as small as it gets unless you use a 100/20 (390x2 ÷ 48v)

Use the same calculation as above for a base idea for a separate mppt

Or run them through the online calculator.

Definitely get a GX like the Ekrano or Cerbo.

The inverter you choose can’t be bigger than a 5kVa with that one battery.

Thanks LX,
I will us the calculator select the mppt.

Is the Victron MultiPlus-II 48/3000 or 5000 a solid choice ? My goal is to eventually expand the system to 20 kW in terms of battery capacity ?

Small question can I use the VM-3P75CT as a standalone or do you need the Cerbo GX to get connected to the Victron Connect app ?

Thanks

I have never tried using the meter as stand alone.
Ideally you want a GX of some kind.

Use the 5kW if you plan on expanding for the ability to charge.

The 5kW is really sized for you peak load as well.
So are you boiling the kettle with other stuff on at all?

Yes is for my house, but for now is for the garden shad, TV, heater, Wifi, small pump, and an washing machine.

Ok. Well start with the 5 if you are able. Otherwise you will be buying twice
