Im a total Newby to Victron but heard amazing things about them. Im getting knocked back for solar panels from anyone and everyone with just reason because of my roof shape. So Ive started installing onto my garage 455w bifacial panels with micro inverters to provide some solar. I want to install a fogstar 16.1kw 48v battery that can run my house in the day and be charged at night on the octopus energy tariff 7p I think, I just don’t know what kit I need. My normal total weekday consumption is 7kw, not peak the total day usage, usually about 12-15kw at the weekend total per day. I want a hybrid setup so if the opportunity does arrive for my house roof I want to be ready. I want to be able to monitor from my phone via an app no matter where I am in the world, is this the place to get help, so I can get my sparky to install what’s needed? Thank you
Hello and welcome in the forum ![]()
In which region of the world will the system be installed? ![]()
The mains voltage supplied by the power company would be decisive in selecting the right Multi Plus.
Uk and thanks
This depends on your local regulations… What single-phase inverter power you are allowed to connect to the grid… You may be feeding energy back into the grid
A Multiplus 2 3000 or 5000 would definitely be a good choice here…
You will need a “GX” as a controller
A Cerbo, Venus, Ekrano, or a DIY solution with Raspberry…
So, if I understand correctly…
You want to charge the battery at night at a low tarif and then use it during the day… so DESS usage… No PV (yet)…
Have a look through the forum… there are definitely already posts from the UK… just use the search function…
Thanks Steffen, so am I correct this multiplus !! 48v 5000w can be grid connected, can have pv plugged directly into it and a 16.1kw 48v fogstar battery plugged into it, or do I need extra equipment to do this. I have single phase at home.
Thanks again.
Infos for Victron ESS …
To convert energy from the battery or from the battery to the grid, you need a Multi Plus 2. For PV, you need a separate MPPT for converting PV to the battery.
Read through the ESS data and then take a look at some Victron products.
I would definitely recommend getting the devices separately … Depending on how much space you have and where you want to install the system at home …
There are now also new devices from Victron … With high-frequency technology … the RS series
also with built-in MPPT … for PV … later
No the Multiplus is not a hybrid system but a hybrid option, the Multiplus can’t have solar directly plugged into it. Victron use some other modules in order to do a DC to DC connection. If you look in the show me your system you can see how it’s done you have people like off Grid garage and grid busters on YouTube that are some good examples of those DC to DC kit.
I seem to have gone against the grain and opted for AC solar added onto my system reason for me as the power from the solar could be used in the house before even touching the multiplus and it gives me a higher kW peak as it’s not limited by the size output of the multi ie with 10kVA I could add another 10kW of solar taking the AC to something like 18/20kW PS you can still monitor AC solar in the Victron app but if you can use Home Assistant to monitor everything in your house ![]()
