SDM630 and modbusTCP

Hi,

I am using a multiplus system in a 3 phase system. everything works well, except my SDM630 and modbus TCP system. I used this page to get the multiplus working with the SDM630 connected to a modbus tcp… Eastron SDM630/SDM230 Modbus Energy Meter - community edition - VictronEnergy I have used this modified SDM630 python file: (removed this file, please use the link below to my SDM630 install instructions).

Why doesn’t it work? It can’t find the SDM630. Do you know how to get the SDM630 with modbus TCP interface working with the multiplus?

Best regards,
Mark

Never heard, that the old SDM630 is compatible with victron…
At least it is not mentioned in the list for compatible meters like EM24, ET340, etc…

I had a SDM630 some years ago and changed it to a EM24 when I installed my Victron ESS, because one point is the connection itself, but the other part is also the “counting method” the meter is using. Don’t know if the SDM630 is accurate enough.

I have solved the problem with the SDM630. SDM630v2 has a standard setting of modbus address 1. SDM630v3 has a standard setting of modbus address 2. Guess which one I used? Yes, SDM630v3. Standard passcode is 1000 for the ones who need it. I recommend the HE11 Modbus TCP interface. I have the HE11-H (230VAC powered). Easy to integrate in your fuse box.
The SDM630 has 2 versions. a cheaper version and only slighty more expensive MID version.I recommend the MID version. I want to use the SDM630 instead of the EM24. Why? at the moment I am using a SDM630 in my system with Modbus TCP. This way the cerbo GX can get the information, but also home assistant.

This is a link to the files you need on the cerbo GX: GitHub - M-o-a-T/victron-meter-library

I’m installing an SDM630V2 (using CT clamps) this weekend. Planning to use the RS485 to USB going to Cerbo.

As not technically minded with the above is there a simple layman’s guide that someone could assist me with how to get this to work?

Thanks in advance

The SDM630 will work. The cerbo GX supports modbus TCP. I think that USB could work, but I certainly don’t recommend it. It was not easy to get the SDM630 to work with the system, so don’t make it more complex. Don’t worry, there are enough challenges along the way.
So I use a modbus TCP device. Something with the modbus connections and an ethernet connection. I use the HE11 device. The devices need to be powered, but I chose the one that can be powered by 230VAC. The HE11-H. It can be bought at AliExpress. But you can also use the other HE11 devices or modbus TCP device. Please make sure to have a modbus TCP device first. I will make a new topic with step by step instructions to install the SDM630.

Like I said in the message above. I wil make a new topic with step by step instructions. ChatGPT helped me to make these instructions more clear.
If there are any questions, please ask them. I am sorry that I didn’t include the USB to modbus device. An other option is to use the RS485 connection on your cerbo GX to make a direct connection with the SDM630 modbus.
