Roast my design

Well… E-BOX is an older model but they still have stock. I am getting reasonably good price but not clearance price. I’m buying in Poland - market may be different there. Reason I decided to go with older model is that in overall it better fits my project.

  • with 48 banks I don’t need 100A performance, 50A*48=2400A is plenty enough - 3 Multipluses max out at 1800A which they will never see.
  • I do not need heating because bateries will sit at comfortable 18-20 degrees ambient in insulated basement.
  • E-BOX price is lower and both models can deliver what I need.
  • E-BOX is tad deeper but lower (below 3U) which works better for me as accommodating 4U on 6 27U racks minus 1U for hub would be hard.
  • E-BOX is using automotive cells and is several years old which translates to field proven - this is more gut feeling though.
  • I can connect 6 strings of 8 E-BOXes with communication hub. I’m buying hub. Not sure which ones I will get because there is version of E-BOX that supports 16 per string (better RS485 chips I guess).
  • Stacking batteries logically is a separate topic from daisy chaining power cables - E-BOX supports up to two and V5 up to three so not much difference. I saw people stacking more with provided flexible busbars but I wouldn’t.
  • Pytes setup totals at 48 batteries (or 96). I will probably be forced to live in basement for spending that much money already so expansion is … unlikely

I think that however decision was made it was made based on practical reasons and not going cheap on connectors.

…also E-BOX does not have regular DC breaker/isolator. I guess they figured out that transistor operation with “dual BMS” is sufficient so you only need to add fusible protection for cables. They added it on V5 more as disconnect but IDK
