Remotely access and backup Smart Battery Sense data

Is there any way to remotely access (as well as backup) Smart Battery Sense data when out of Bluetooth range?

The application is lithium batteries I’m testing in some RC vehicles and drones. The Smart Battery Sense is perfect as I only needed voltage and temperature data and it had to be very compact and portable/wireless. But now I’d like to make sure I have a regular backup of the temp and voltage data in-case something goes wrong while the vehicles are in storage/charging.

I was looking at installing a GlobalLink 520 nearby, which looked very promising, but then noticed the SBS is not specifically mentioned under “Product compatibility & data transmission to VRM”.

Are there any VE or 3rd party solutions to achieve remote access (beyond bluetooth range) to SBS data via VictronConnect, VRM, and/or some other hosted dashboard? Thank you.

Officially there isn’t a way to get it to the VRM.

With esp 32 Fabian has managed to do a few things though.

It uses the instant readout ability.

Hi,

Although the SmartBatterySense is not explicitly mentioned, I can confirm that the SmartBatterySense is also supported by the GlobalLink 520. But this would mean that the GlobalLink constantly needs to be in range of the SmartBatterySense as it does not retrieve the trend data. It can only receive the live Instant Readout data and send that to VRM. VRM will store the data, but also only for a limited time (6 months at the moment). So if you want the voltage and temperature data for a longer period, you need to download the data from VRM regularly.

At the moment it is not possible to make a backup of the trend data of a SmartBatterySense and view that data offline.

Appreciate the assistance. I have learned something today.

Hello Thiemo, Thank you for informing that the GL (GlobalLink 520) can access/pull the Instant Readout data from one or more SBS (Smart Battery Sense) device(s) (up to 25?) and upload to (make available via) VRM. This is great news!

I assume that if the SBS/GL lose their connection (eg. SBS/GL lose power or move out of range), that they’ll automatically reconnect, and GL will resume upload of Instant Readout data, once the two are back online and within range of each other (no manual intervention/reconnect is required)?

Can you confirm the sample frequency/rate/resolution of the temperature and voltage data that’s made available on VRM in this type of setup (SBS Instant Readout data being pulled and uploaded via GL)? For example, will I see temperature and voltage data/samples for every single minute for the past six months? Or is it sampling every 5 minutes, or 60 minutes? Is there a retention policy to only maintain hourly or daily samples after a certain number of days?

Just want to be sure of the functionality/limitations before purchasing the GL.

Thank you very much for the clarifications!

Hi,

When the SBS comes into the range of the GL again, it will automatically transmit new data. As said, it will not download old data from the SBS and send that to VRM. It will only transmit data that is received from that point on. This latest measurement is sent to VRM every 15 minutes and VRM keeps that data for 6 months. It does not resample the data to lower the time resolution or things like that.

The reported resolution is 0.01 Volt and 0.01 Kelvin.
