Question re Orion XS Engine Shutdown

Hi,

On an installation I’ve been using off and on for >18 months, for the first time that I’ve noticed, the Orion XS stopped charging because of “Engine shutdown”. Going into the Orion XS settings and toggling “Engine shutdown detection” to off allowed the charging to restart.

What would cause the “Engine shutdown” to occur and are there any concerns about switching off the switch? (latest firmware installed)

more details:

Day 1

Looks like Day 1 it was behaving normally but then stopped taking full power after a while.

Day 2:

The “Engine shutdown” was turned off at about 1PM on Day 2 when 0 power was observed. Orion software said "it was shutdown due to engine shutdown” or something, I found the toggle and it started charging. After a while it stopped taking power. (I was trying to get to 100% to start boondocking for a week or so)

Here are some other days from the previous weeks where the behavior was more consistent.

I did leave the van parked for 1 week prior to Day 1 where the solar was more or less even with use (fan and Starlink) where it hovered around 80% and it is hotter than usual where I am. Not sure if either of these will impact behavior.

Thanks for the help!!

Ken

Engine shutdown detecrion works by monitoring the voltage received at the XS unit’s input. If the voltage drops below a preset value the unit turns off. There are various settings to cater for different alternator types.

Pages 18 and 19 of the english language manual explains all the settings.

Your data shows the battery never reaching 100% but in many places the XS input power (blue line) shows “ramp down” that is consistent with absorption charging and then float, indicating a fully charged battery.

Without input voltage data it is difficult to interpret any further.

The lynx soc might be off. So it is possible you are concerned about the wrong item

What you will have to check is that everything is charging up to the right voltage in absorption and float if they are then revisit the lynx settings.

So set up some widgets to compare voltages as well.
