Question about PowerAssist feature, can the ac input be another inverter ac output?

I already have a victron phoenix inverter for lights and computers and now I have a need for something like a water kettle.

I was wondering if I can buy a Multiplus 2000VA (the one with black corner) and use the powerassist feature to connect the old phoenix ac out to the new multiplus ac in. And both connect to the same battery.

When its under light load, use the phoenix inverter only and the multiplus inverter automatically kick in only when it’s needed.

By the manual, I think its doable but I don’t know if the mutipllus will use the phoenix ac out to charge the battery back? Then it will be a dead loop, battery->phoenix->multiplus->battery. Can I turn off the charge feature? I only want to use solar to charge the battery.

Is there any other better option? or I should just buy a bigger inverter like Multipluse II 3000va and ditch the phoenix? Thank you.

Which phoenix do you have ?

And what batteries v and ah

phoenix 24/800 120V
24v 280ah lifepo4

How are the batteries charged ?

mppt solar charger. I don’t need to use the multiplus ac charging feature, at least most of the time.
why do you want to know the battery and charger? I don’t think it’s realted to the inverter, right?

Wouldn’t a phoenix 24/3000 be cheaper then the multiplus ?

Thank you for pointing out that. Actually I don’t know there is a Phoenix 24/3000va PIN243020100 model. The website and naming is a little bit confusing for me. But I think the phoenix 24/3000 is almost 50% more expensive then the multiplus 24/2000va 120v PMP242200100.

Also, I hope the idle consumption can be low. Although I don’t know how much power does the multiplus 2000va will take when in powerassist mode, if the inverter only will be turn on and consume energy when more power is needed.

I wouldn’t have thought it possible, but you’re right, the multiplus is a lot cheaper.

The power inverting and in low power modes are in on the datasheet

The charger can be turned off by setting the output to zero.

But you’ll need access to a pc with mk3 interface for the setup.

Technically you could daisy chain a Multi behind the Phoenix and disable the charger of the Multi, yes.
The next question is how often you will use the water kettle, regarding the idle consumption of a Multiplus.
It just might be easier (although a tad more expensive) to buy a slightly more powerful Multiplus, run it in parallel to the Phoenix to just power the water kettle and turn it off when not using the kettle.

What’s the power draw of your water kettle ?
The max Watt a Multi or Phoenix can supply is slightly less than it’s VA rating.
My 1600VA Multiplus can power my 1450W Senseo coffee maker, but it beeps and spews overload warnings all through the coffee brew.

He can also turn it off when its connected to.the phoenix…

If you turn off a Multi, there’s no output anymore.

The rest of the loads can run directly of the phoenix, only the waterheater is connected to the multiplus

That would be an option [if the output capacity of the multi were to just fall short to power the kettle], indeed.

Thank you for all the replies.

My kettle and coffee machine is about the same 1400-1500w. Glad you tell me that the 1600va inverter alone can’t handle it well but still finish the job. the 2000va one is about 1500-1600w , it might be able to handle it alone and no need the help from phoenix 800.

about the idle consumption, if the data sheet is accurate.
Option A, use the phoenix 24/3000 alone is about 20w,
and option B use 24/800+ multiplus 24/2000 is 7+11=18w. It can save more if only turn on the muti when needed.

Both option can turn off the bigger inverter and just use the small phoenix 24/800 alone. Both need a little bit rewirng but not difficult.

Option A need pay 50% more but got extra cont. 1000va and much more peak power, and option B got one extra battery charger.

I just realize that there is one more option: Multiplus II 24/3000, idle 13w, support PowerAssist and it’s cheaper than the Phoenix 3000va. But just a little bit bigger and heavier.

Which option would be quiet and also more suitable for mobile application like campervan?
If the multiplus 2000va can handle everything alone that would be perfect for my need. The only heavy load I have is the kettle and coffee machine.

Is there a mpii 24/2000 ?

No, only multiplus 24/2000, but looks like a mp ii
