Orion XS 1400 direct connection to alternator

Hello

A customer wants to install one directly between an alternator and battery bank.

I’m not convinced this is correct as the alternator output won’t have a battery directly across it.

Please advise

This can result in trouble because the battery provides a buffer for the alternator voltage regulator. People have tried without a battery and have seen large voltage cycling because the alternator regulator can interact directly with the Orion control so they fight, the battery smooth this out.

There are alternators that output a fixed voltage, at least with 28V ive seen this already, maybe 14V also exists.

But if you go as far as installing a seperate alternator to power just an Orion you might as well use a special voltage regulator like a WS500 or similar. Might give you also more charge power
