After installing the Orion xs 12/12 50 amp charger I have very loud static on the VHF; very loud on channel 16. I have added three ferrit beads to all input and output cables and that did not help. Is there a remedy or do I have a bad unit?
Hello Victron-Community,
I have trouble with my newly purchased Orion XS. Its connected to my boat engine alternator and charge my lifepo4 battery bank. It works fine, except it gave a strong interference on the VHF channel 16 and other. Fixed installed VHF is within 1,5m distance, however I have the same interference on my handheld VHF around 4 meters from XS (and fixed VHf turned off). When I turn off XS the interference is all gone.
I‘ve not seen the same behavior with the former installed 12/12-30A with same cabling.
I‘ve installed latest firmware.
Is this a known behavior for XS series?
I want to try to add some ferrit cores around all cables connected to XS and hope this solve this issue.
Best regards
Maik from SV Moana
It’s a known issue and Victron is working on a new HW version of the Orion to fix this.
Unfortunately there is not much you can do with the current HW version.
Adding ferrit cores can reduce the static.
Here is a thread about that on the old community:
