I am installing an Orion XS 12/12 DC-DC charger on my boat this spring to charge the LFP house battery from the AGM starting battery when the alternator is running. There is a chance that the input and output of the Orion could be connected together to the same battery for a period of time under one of my emergency switch configurations. Is this OK or will it damage the unit? Would I need to disconnect the input lead or remove the activation jumper before using this switch configuration? I realize that the Orion will not be operational in this event and that is OK.
You would need to disable the orion prior to selecting “both” on the battery selector. could be done with a small switch to the remote loop on the Orion.
Thanks Mike. Since this will be an infrequent (hopefully) occurrence I suppose I could accomplish the same thing by just removing the jumper?
yes.
