Hi- I bought a Orion Tr Smart 12/12 30 isolated DC DC charger. I like it, with the alternator detection, etc. It’s labeled as 360W, 30A. But it’s drawing 500 watts, 40 amps from my source (12V battery). I had hoped (but obviously I didn’t confirm) that I could limit the current through the app, but I can’t. But exceeding the advertised current is causing me some problems. Are there any solutions?
Yeah, they do that. I have a 12/12 18 and put about 22A in. They are isolated, so not as efficient. The current rating is the output. The new Orion XS has adjustable current. It is non-isolated, though.
If it is boosting the voltage then it needs more current at the lower input voltage to generate the higher output voltage, as well as losses.
Also, the 360W is nominal figure at 12V, if the output is 30A at 14.0V then it will be 420W output.
