Hi, I am a new owner of a used campervan with x2 Orion-Tr-Smart non isolated chargers fitted, linked up to a Multiplus 12 Inverter/Charger.
The smart chargers are not sensing that the engine is running so are not switching on the charging of the leisure batteries; if I short the remote terminal (used paperclip) they switch on and charge fine.
I am by far a beginner and the only issue that can be seen is that the Multiplus firmware is old at v552 and needs updating to v556, all other devices are up to date. At the moment the dealer is unable to remotely update (dealer is several hours drive away!) and the Multiplus has no built in Bluetooth so I am unable to update directly.
If anyone can help my questions I have are:
Is the firmware likely to be the issue?
If the terminal shorting causes the charges to operate normally would this eliminate the issue being a fuse somewhere?
What do you mean by this? For automatic operation, the remote bridge -which has a wire connecting both pins of the remote terminal- needs to be installed, yes - it sounds like maybe the remote bridge is missing?
Hi Justin…thx..,.so yes the remote wires are installed to the remote switch…so i push a paperclip into the back..,.the charger then comes on a chArges ok….with or without engine on … so when engine off i removed paperclip …otherwise van starter battery would deplete…..all has been working in the past
as I have 2 cables installed on the remote switch I must have the L-H pin wiring I guess…..so by shorting across the L-H connector is effectively like closing the switch in the remote circuit….so this would mean that for some reason the the switch is not closing as a result of the engine being started…..am guessing again that the Orion has some sort of smart voltage detection which senses the alternator voltage and switches the switch in the remote circuit?…..or is wrong.?…..based on the fact that it has been working ok I can’t understand why this would now not work?….I have 2 Orion’s installed (due to 2 leisure batteries I assume) ….neither are switching on with engine start and both switch on by shorting across the remote terminal…..any ideas are very welcome…!
As far as I understand, the remote terminal has to be shorted or H connected to 12V or L to 0V. One of these MUST be done. The H is often connected to a 12V output on the ignition switch. On top of this you can set voltage parameters to control charging, but the remote terminal needs to be shorted out. You need to trace the wires back from the remote terminals, you may find that somewhere there is a manual over ride switch to turn these on and off. Have you asked the previous owner.
