Orion Tr DC-DC charger high operating temperature

Hi, my DCDC charger case is reaching 50 deg C after about an hour of running the motor (Diesel engine on yacht with 115amp alternator). The DCDC charger is housed in a well ventilated compartment near the batteries but well away from the engine. Ambient temperature was about 28 deg C.

I am concerned about this temperature and what happens if I run the motor for 10 hours or 20 hours - as sometimes happens when cruising with no wind.

Should I be concerned? I’ve seen one YouTube where a computer style fan ha been installed - is this necessary?

The manual refers to a top operating temperature of 55 deg C but above 40 deg C but it ‘derates’ by 3% for each degree above 40C.

Anyone have any issues with high temperatures? operating in similar circumstances?

Thanks for any advice received.

Tony
