Orion Smart DC-DC settings check for Group 31 AGM — battery reads 0% but charger shows Float

The problem:

The Orion shows Float almost immediately after I start charging — Input ~14.3V, Output ~13.6V. But when I took the battery in for testing it came back at essentially 0% state of charge, and it collapses to ~11.3V once the charge source is removed. So the charger reports a full/float battery while the battery is actually empty.

I understand this behavior likely points to a failing battery (it went through a reverse-polarity incident earlier), and I’m handling that separately with a warranty test. But before I install a replacement, I want to make sure my Orion is configured correctly so I don’t cook or under-charge the new one.

My current settings (please correct these):

Questions:

**1.**	For a 100Ah AGM of this type, what absorption and float targets do you recommend? (I’ve seen 14.4–14.7V absorption / 13.5–13.8V float suggested.)

**2.**	My absorption phase seems to end almost instantly and drop to float. Is that a sign of my input-source voltage being too low to complete absorption, an absorption-time setting issue, or just the bad battery fooling the algorithm?

**3.**	Any recommended input lockout settings when the source is an EV DC-DC system that idles around 14.3V?

Many AGM batteries want somewhere between 13.8-14.4V for bulk charging, and then float around 13.4-13.6V. There may also be temperature compensation data - more voltage needed on cold days, less on hot days. To get the answers to your questions, see the Manufacturer’s Data Sheet for that Group 31 AGM battery. Then you probably want Expert mode to set it specifically.

Secondly, you’ve probably destroyed your AGM battery - that low a voltage after coming off float means it’s not recoverable. That is not something anyone would cover under warranty.

The ones that the battery manufacturer specifies. Otherwise the victron standards according to the battery type

Check your output cabling and fuses. If the Orion is not connected to a battery on its output then theres nothing for it to charge.

I guess the 12VDC side also has a battery on the EV? Then use undervoltage protection according to that battery type. If the 12VDC has no battery and runs solely off of the DC/DC converter then the lockout settings dont really matter

Quick update I took it to AutoZone they were able to recharge it to 100 percent but I’m going to let the battery rest over night check the voltage and see where I am. I really just wanted to make sure I had the correct settings for the agm battery.
