Old battery pack - 100% healthy - as a backup to feed ac input

I need to expand my battery system. The batteries i vae are no longer in production. Therefore i have 100% healthy batteries that i would like to use to feed the ac input of victron quattro. If that is possible. I.e. If the system goes under a certain battery percentage the ac input will use the old batteries (with a seperate inverter ofcourse) to feed the new batteries. Is this possible? Any thoughts on this?

I think this would be possible using Assistants but I am an advocate of simple systems. I would ask yourself if an unnecessarily complicated, higher potential for problems and perhaps more expensive system is worth it to use your old batteries? Or should I just sell the batteries and start from scratch?

Someone else will need to comment on the specifics of setting up the system the way you are considering. Its above my pay grade.

Cheers!

We have a system almost like that.

The older batteries are on a separate system. And it is used like a generator on those bad days when solar is not keeping up.

It is on the output of the inverter system though and we have a node red flow that controls when and how much to feed back. This is because we wanted to charge it off the solar excess of the main system and it seemed easier that way as the main system is a three phase.

It is possible to set it up on the input as welm and probably simpler and just use the generator start stop to use it to charge the main. It just leaves one question though - how does the second system charge up again?

Thanks for your reply. If connected as a generator, could the second system charge up again by turning the “generator” off manually?
