MultiPlusII - shuts off showing low battery warning

My system is less than 5 months old. I have a MultiPlus II and two Epoch 460 amp hour LifePo4 batteries and 880 watts of solar panels. My unit was parked with only refrigerator and normal parasitic draws for a few weeks. Currently, the MultiPlus II is constantly shutting off with a low battery warning and then restarting and shutting off again. My batteries are fully charged - confirmed with multimeter, the battery’s app, and a lithium charger. Any ideas of what is causing this? I checked all connections and they seem fine.

Hi @Bryan
This is symptomatic of a precharge issue. Multi has a lot of capacitance that needs filling when the battery is switched in. This means high current of the duration of a spark. Of course your battery maker advertises ‘short circuit protection’, and this is likely causing it to disconnect.

Try precharging the Multi with say a car battery, then switch in the Epochs as quickly as you can.

Some batt makers boast precharge circuitry, but it can be added in. Google for more. But first check that this is actually the cause.

Thank you John. I turned inverter off, disconnected batteries then added a 12 volt light bulb in line to use as a resistor. Was able to get it running. Curious, however, what would cause my capacitors to discharge. My inverter had been left running to keep fridge and freezer cold, and solar provides enough charge to almost keep batteries fully charged. I literally lost less than 10% charge on batteries in 2 months. I check it weekly and never any problems until now. Bought rig new in May. Had it out several weekends and 4 week trip cross country.

Some batteries shut down when they notice only what they consider a parasitic draw.
So it is possible there was no enough going with the system.
