MultiPlus won’t charge my batteries if a generator is less than 5.5 kwh

Hello everyone,

I’m going to ask a beginner-level question. I set up a MultiPlus (inverter/charger) 12/2000/80 (230V) system by connecting three 150 amp/h gel batteries in series for the hunting cabin.

No matter how much I reduce the AC current level from the control panel, the MultiPlus won’t charge the batteries with any generator below 5.5 kWh. When it tries to charge, a “click” sound is followed by the green light turning yellow (charge), but it immediately reverts back, and my batteries aren’t charging.

For example, I know a 3 kWh generator produces 12 amps/hour, and even if I lower the AC limit to 5 amps, the MultiPlus still won’t charge. However, the system works with a 5.5 kWh generator.

What do you think I’m doing wrong? What else do I need to adjust?

Thank you.

the 3kW generator is probably only 2.5kW continuous rating.
Set the Max AC current to 10A.
Set the battery charge current to load the generator to ~50%, so ~1.2kW. this is limited by the charger in the inverter to less, so it should be able to do the 80A. If you still have connection problems, then reduce the battery charge current, NOT the AC input current limit.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your response.

How can I set the battery charge current? I have only remote panel and no VE.dongle. I think I need one, right?

Kind regards,

Emin

yes, you need a Mk3 interface to configure the inverter.
