Multiplus refuses grid suddenly

I have a well working 3-phase system with 2 multiplus II’s. Since a few days it refuses to charge the Pylontech battery bank for some reason even though Grid is clearly connected and active. Other than low battery I don’t see any errors in the alarm log. What could have caused this and how to further debug this?

I’ve rebooted the cerbo-gx, turned multiplusses on/off and still after 3 days nothing is coming back.

A three phase system with only 2 inverters on?

There is a missing in comms unit. That would be the place to start.

Switch them into charger only mode.

After the batteries are fully charged, reprogram so you keep 10% if the system shuts down again. 4% is damage level for pylons.

Also if you don’t have one yet, set up a system bypass.

What do you mean by a missing comms unit?

Yes only to phases in a three phase system. Works flawlessly for 2 years already.

To clarify.

The grid is three phase - correct.

Your inverter system is not 3 phase as it has only two inverters.

Does switching them into charger only mode make them charge the batteries?
They are really low and need to have that happen before you can continue.

This tile shows no grid voltages…
Do check the AC at the input to the inverters, if they won’t charge in charger only mode.
Also at 8:46am you should be getting some solar input too.

Putting them in charger mode doesn’t charge the batteries either.

I checked voltage on ac in with multimeter. No problem there.

No solar panels connected currently so no charge from that either.

VE.Bus summary says -273°C of battery temperature, might not make a difference, but could be

Can you still switch the inverters on from the console? If not, have you tried disconnecting them from VE.bus and switching the physical switch to charger only? Theres been a few cerbos that had issues with waking up inverters through VE.bus.

Is this an ESS? Have you read out LOM/NS logs through VE.config?

Good point. It is possible for more than one place to switch.

@yannick
Is there no solar at all. I find it weird they aren’t doing anything either. Unless you have really bad solar right now? That should have done something there.

Are your batteries all on? It may also be the temperatures. And they are refusing to charge.

It may be that to test this all you will have to remove dvcc control and reset the devices to get something going. Easiest device would be the mppt.

Yes has been like this since the beginning, didn’t cause a problem then.

haven’t tried that but but I know the system is setup to stop inverting below 6%. My issue/worry is that it won’t charge because it doesn’t seem to accept the AC IN.

Will try that, thanks.

Nope, never got that to work with the 3-phase system setup unfortunately.

Can i do that remotely? I’ve never done that. Do I need a usb dongle for that and a windows machine?

Disconnected for a rennovation.

yes. Would turning off/on help?

it’s 14 degrees Celcius here

what does that mean?

mppt isn’t doing anything currently as all solar is disconnected. i want the grid to charge the batteries. I’m worried that if i reset the multiplusses that getting back the 3-phase setup will be a pain.

Thanks for all your inputs sofar!

For the vebus system its as easy as removing battery control on the GX under dvcc and then switching them off and on again or resetting the ve bus on the Gx X itself in device list.
A word of warning only do this if they are programmed correctly.

should i set this one to “No BMS control” for a few minutes?

hooked up some solar panels and got battery level up again. Inverters still not turning on (so doesn’t seem grid related).

@yannick
Check the physical rocker switch state again. If that is in the correct position… Unplug the ve bus cable to the GX does the system switch on then?

Batteries being charged is definitely an improvement.

Is it programmed according to this guide?

this didn’t fix it.

it’s on

will try tonight.

yes

Not sure which one of the steps fixed it but it was fixed today!

  • turned off/on batteries
  • unplugged and re-plugged cable to Cerbo GX
