Many moons ago I purchased a MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70 and controlled powerflow in and out of the batteries using my own node-red control loop using ESS power setpoint phase L1 to my GX configured with ESS mode 3 (external control). When defining the setpoint to a high value, the MultiPlus would always charge the batteries at the 70 amp rate.
I’ve recently switched to a MultiPlus-II 48/15000/100-200 and have configured it the same, but now when charging the experience is very inconsistent. Some nights it will ramp straight up to the 40 amp AC input limit (~120 amps DC charge rate) and sit there all night and be fine. Other days it will hover around 10-20 amps for an hour or so, and then ramp up to 40 amps. And then there’s nights like last night where it wondered between 10-20 amps all night, barely charged the batteries and now they’re empty and I’m paying peak rate for my energy.
I’m using the victronenergy/node-red-contrib-victron VE.Bus System Control node in node-red and setting the ESS power setpoint phase L1 (W).
• All Victron and node-red components are fully up-to-date
• Node-red is repeating the correct setpoint every few seconds
• I’ve triple checked all physical cabling, breakers and connections
• Ambient temperatures are consistently around 20C
• No breakers or cabling are warm to the touch
• AC input voltage and frequency is stable and within the normal range limits
• Active load on the MultiPlus’s AC out is around 1kW
• BMS systems are externally controlled and do not current limit
I’m not sure if I have a fault, or am missing some secret sauce with my config. Any ideas?
