Multiplus II 12/3000 stops working when cold

My multiplus II 12/3000 stopped working this morning and I am unsure why, I suspect it has something to do with the cold.

This morning I woke up and when I switched on a 30w 240v light everything connected to the 240v switched off. I checked the inverter and found that all of the inverter and charger lights on the multiplus were flashing. Inverter is connected to 4 300ah lifepo4 batteries and the battery voltage at the inverter was 13.29v. I do not believe it was a battery issue as my 12v diesel heater was still working fine and I was able to still have a shower using the 12v water pump connected to the circuit. I switched the inverter off and back on again and everything worked normal. I then tested with a 1700w load and my battery voltage barely dropped.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this before and what the solution was?

How cold was it? Are your batteries self-heating? Do you know what the actual battery temperature was?

Perhaps the BMS was unhappy due to the cold and prevented charging/discharging,

I’m sure other folks will have better ideas, but figured starting it off with a few basic questions might lead to a solution.

The Bluetooth dongle connected to the multiplus said that the battery cabinet was at 9 degrees Celsius. It was still dark outside so there was no solar going into the battery and the voltage was 13.29v at the inverter. The battery bms’s were still outputting power, my diesel heater was reading 13.29v and was running fine, plus my water pump was still able to pull 10a.

Did you happen to note which LEDs were flashing and check against the Special LED Indications chart in the manual? It might give a hint as to what happened.

All of the led’s were flashing in sequence. It would flash “inverter on”, then “overload”, then “low battery”, then “temperature”, then “mains on”, then “bulk”, “absorption”, and “float”. It kept doing that in a loop until I switched it off and on

It just happened to shut off again, this time it is flashing differently, I’ll upload a video

Does the Victron Connect or the older Victron Toolkit app give you any insight?

I am connecting it to my laptop now while it is faulting to see what it says

The victron connect app won’t connect to it while it’s faulting. Going to have to turn it off and back on again to see

I think its trying to give you a VE.bus error code.

It won’t reset now. When I turn it back on it does the same thing

Can you check all the communication cables etc?

I have the network cable disconnected. It turned on for a few seconds and then shut off again

Can you check the BMS? Might be its not talking. Is there an Ekrano or Cerbo or other GX that might give insight?

I have a bad feeling that I know what’s wrong with it now and quite frankly I feel ill. A mouse just ran out of it while I was removing the plate that covers the wires… About to disconnect everything so I can remove the front cover

I have heard that peanut oil is used in some electrical wiring as a plasticizer. Hopefully the mouse didn’t have a snack while he was in there.
