Still on the move or vacation Michael? Any news about your system yet?
Probably solved, signing out of this topic
Sorry phaseshifter, yes you are correct I have resolved the issue, sorry that I haven’t posted before now, life has been very, very busy. But it’s still no excuse I should have let people know.
Basically I have set the “Weak AC” box in the charger tab in the software VE Configure, this has certainly helped and resolved the problem.
Moving forward it would be nice that if the input is set to “Shore power” that the setting “Weak AC” would be unticked, where if the input was set to “Generator” then the “Weak AC” would be ticked??? It’s only a software change but it would mean that you could use the full capacity of the charger depending on if I am using shore power or the generator
I hope this all makes sense??? Is there anyway of getting this across to Victron???
Hello Michael,
Good to know you have found a solution.
As i understood from the manual, weak AC option, once set, it remains active in both grid and island (generator ) mode.
As the weak AC option is a peak-load for your Batteries, i get it when you are shore connected to the grid, you want the kW-per second capability of that grid in stead of wear on your batt.
You can post a new topic with your question directed to Victron and see who is willing to answer.
As i also want to buy an 5kVA gen. as an home emergency genset, in the near future, i will test the control thoroughly and let you know.
If you are looking for a home generator I would seriously consider a 1500RPM instead of a 3000RPM screamer, a friend has a 6KVA Northern Lights unit and it’s been faultless, it runs the Multiplus without any issues, with a second smaller charger, a watermaker, and the immersion heater all at the same time without any issues, unfortunately I don’t have the space for this, but it would be good if I could increase my charge rate (it drops from 120A to 90A with the “weak AC” ticked), when connected to the shore power, I will try and get something over to Victron ![]()
