I have an install using a Multi RS that is off grid, solar supported b
y a generator on AC in.
The issue is that it will pass through from the generator to run load but won’t charge the batteries (Dyness).
The current limit is set to 10A, the voltage and frequency of the generator are fine, and the multi connects to it easily, it’s just the charging issue. The multi is set to ON.
Do you use a Cerbo-like device? Connected to the battery?
If yes, try to disable DVCC, if enabled and see if it’s charging.
Or try without it (Cerbo) altogether…
A further thought, if the ESS (in the multi rs)was set to keep battery charged or had a percentage for reserve set, that may affect whether it is charging from a grid source or not.
I had a compatibility problem with an AVR non-inverter generator. Initially the NS Log in Grid settings said “Too high AC input”, then my dealership adjusted settings and the NS Log revealed “Bad quality of the AC input”
The Multi RS is set to “Keep batteries charged” by default out of the box.
This setting was changed at some point to disable charge from the AC input, do you know why?
This setting should not be changed for an off grid system with a generator. I am looking to see how this could be better documented and explained to save others time in the future, and it would be good to know what prompted someone to change this setting in the first place.

I can already see quite a few improvements that could be made to the VictronConnect screen where this setting is adjusted and in the product documentation for ESS in Multi RS.
Previously ESS was unambiguously and exclusively only installed on grid connected systems.
That is a bit different on Multi RS, but the documentation is still written with assumption of being grid connected, and that should be clarified.
Thanks Guy, that would certainly help. Ive sold a number of these units and only yesterday had another instance where the setting had been changed at some point and the customer couldn’t get their generator to work.
Because I only serve the off grid market I probably see more issues around generators than many.
