I already have:
3x MultiPlus-II 48/6500 with AC-in connected to grid and AC-out1 powering all loads in my apartment,
Lynx busbar and 3x 32kWh batteries (DVCC, CVL, CCL, DCL works),
Ekrano GX as controlling device (VE.Bus Multipluses and VE.Can Lynx Shunt).
Further I had planned:
SmartSolar RS MPPT 450/200,
SmartSolar RS MPPT 450/100,
Skylla TG 48/50 as a device to work as AC-DC converter, taking power from generator to supplement solar in winter time.
Each Multi RS Solar MPPT receives one six-module series string of GCL NT12R/48GDF 460 W bifacial modules (STC: 2,760 Wp, Vmp 180.78 V, Imp 15.27 A, Voc 213.30 V and Isc 16.05 A, manufacturer’s 10% rear-irradiance condition: 2,980.8 W, Imp 16.49 A and Isc 17.33 A)
But looking at Multi RS Solar, I could perhaps replace SmartSolar RS MPPT and Skylla TG 48/50 ? I have following questions for which I couldn’t find answer in available online documentation, so any help would be appreciated.
Will DVCC correctly apply managed battery CVL, CCL and DCL? So will it consider additional current coming from AC-DC conversion from generator?
Are my solar panel strings supported and inside spec’ed current limits of Multi RS Solar? When considering both side irradiance Imp and Isc can reach above 16 A, I am not sure that is fully compatible with Multi RS solar’s Maximum PV short circuit current of 16 A.
Run your panels through the online mppt calculator. It is an easy check with no guesses.
Is not controllable by the system.
What you could possibly do is add an automation that drop the charge current from the main system if you are running your generator with the TG. Although the chances are you are running it because there is not enough from other sources so you are probably overthinking that part
Is also an option would simplify the installation overall. But also add the complication of synchronization to a generator and that can be an issue on its own. So you would have to weigh up that.
Yes, maybe I didn’t make myself clear enough; I am thinking of replacing SmartSolar RS MPPT 450/100 and Skylla TG 48/50 with Multi RS Solar. I know that Skylla TG 48/50 is not controllable by the system - but will Multi RS Solar’s extra charging from panels and generator be considered in DVCC? My guess is yes, but just want to confirm if that is the case.
Its outside of what is considered a normal supported set up.
The reason being a GX is designed to only control one inverterbsystem. The manual states one ve bus inverter system natively (without modifications) under DVCC.
But you are thinking about mixing a ve bus system and a ve can one, that might be possible under DVCC. There have been several posts about this type of set up, but not one has come back to confirm even on their own posts if it works and the Multi goes under external control and obeys limits from bothe grid charge and mppt charging sources.
The multis max charge current is 100a though, rhere is no way that will overpower your bank, and if you program it right also can’t overcharge the bank.
If it doesn’t obey limits there are ways to set up controls in node red to control it if needed (so it is customisable).
Yes, I know, each battery pack has max 300A charging current, 900A altogether, so that will not be breached. I am not worried about it. What I’d like is to have custom control of charging currents, if possible the easy way.
I know for a fact that 3x Multis + 2x RS MPPT 450/200 works nice together and DVCC works well. I’ve already built this configuration. But Multi RS Solar is unknown to me, never worked with it, so I do not know what to expect from it.
Hi there, don’t know if this helps…I’ve got the Multi Rs Solar Inverter since about two years and Iam very happy with this.On one string are 9 LG Bifacials adding up to about 365Vdc and about 11A,the second string are 7 Peimar Bifacials with a total of 330Vdc and about 14.2A without bifacial gain. There are stated at 15% gain @15.4A with 16.25 open circuit/short circuit ISC.Never had any problems and is charging my DIY 17S2P 34Kw total perfectly (open loop,no communications between Lifepo4 and inverter).Excess solar power gets controlled by node red(cerbo gx).I can throw any loads(within limits) to this machine and never complains .This setup keeps things simple and connections straight forward. The only thing is it’s not the quietest, but if I close the door to the room where I have got everything,no probs..,…By the way,I keep charging currents quite low(between 26Ah and 35Ah) as I’m not interested to have the batteries charged already in the morning…Any questions just ask Best regards Frank
Added: by the way completely offgrid(no physical connection to grid)
So, do you have generator connected to AC-in perhaps on it? Or are you using only PV part of the device? How loud does it get when PV production is near max? Do you have any other interters/chargers/MPPTs from Victron to compare how loud it is to other devices? For example, I am quite impressed with latest new lineup of MultiPlus-II 48/6500 - running considerably quieter and cooler than previous Multipluses such as 48/5000, 48/8000 and 48/10000. I also know that SmartSolar RS MPPT 450/200 isn’t too loud.
I didn’t have to use a generator yet,and haven’t even tried this out .
The inverter is not the quietest, especially near full mppt/load.Having said this,I have placed it at a room next to the bedroom. Most the times the door is open but it doesn’t bother too much as one does get used to it to a certain degreeCan’t compair it to other victron gear,as I had other made equipment before.Cheers Frank
