Multi RS 6000 Firmware bug limits grid feed in to 5000W in when using external current sensor

So can you feed into the grid with more than 5000 watt per phase by setting a negative grid setpoint of, say… -6000W?

While the Grid meter was activated in the MultiRS settings I was unable to feed back even 2000W in L1 from the MultiRS if the SolarEdge inverter was already feeding back over all three phases. At some point it was even charging the battery from both its MPPtrackers and the grid despite a clearly negative Grid Setpoint.

With the Grid Meter deactivated in my MultiRS settings (even though it was still enabled and visible in Venus OS and connected on CAN) I was not limited in controlling my MultiRS by ESS Setpoint.

With my 25A main fuse on each phase, and my MultiRS and SolarEdge inverter both feeding in I obviously never wanted my MultiRS to feed in over 5kW on L1 by itself. My NodeRed calculation aimed for 23A feedin for the both of them together…

Exactly the same issue as I am having. I want the Multi RS to feed in more than 5000W (including the SolarEdge) but it should not exceed 25A. Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with Node-red, so I am not able to design a node red flow that allows to control the Multi RS feed in without the Grid meter activated.

@dognose did you get any update on this from Victron staff?

Update: although the maximum of 5000W feed in is still persistent, today I noticed that the Multi RS-es do allow feed FROM grid to be above 5000W when charging the batteries from grid:

This means the issue with maximum 5000W per phase on the external grid meter only applies to feeding back into the grid, not from charging from grid.

Somebody tried if an update to 1.23 fixes the feed in limit? i am facing the same issue :frowning:

1.23 did not fix the feed in issue.

@mpvader I know that the team is working on this, do you perhaps have any update on this bug?

It seems to be fixed at my plant but i do not know why. 3x Multi RS Solar throttling feed in, why? - #25 by mode

Did you disable Energy meter support? If so, that would fix the issue of the feed in limit, but the current would not me controlled anymore and my 3x25A main fuse would blow out.

I need the feed in to be limited to 3x25A, but with the energy meter enabled, the feed in won’t go beyond 5000W or 20.6A per phase.

It did disable it for testing and swichted it on again, since then the problem is gone. I also shifted my AC Inverters from AC IN to AC Out and back. I do not know what did the trick…
Now i have AC Inverters on AC IN and Meter Support ON and no limitations. Only by playing around with these parameters. Seems to be an software bug…

I’ve done some more testing now. Currently my AC PV inverter is supplying 10kW to the system (on AC-in).

I have disabled DESS for this test and I have set a grid setpoint of 0W to the Multi RS L1 and L2.
I am testing with L3 since I do not have any loads on L3 at the moment.
I have set a negative grid setpoint on -6000W on the Multi RS L3, but I am limiting the grid current in different steps to see how the system reacts.

First test: grid setpoint -6000W but current limit on 10A. The system shows a feed in of exactly 10A on L3:

Next test: grid setpoint -6000W but current limit on 16A. The system shows a feed in of exactly 16A on L3:

For the next test I had to switch to the Multi RS of L1 since the AC voltage on L1 is lower in my area and for the last tests we need the PV inverters to stay online (because they will shut down at 254V)

Next test: grid setpoint -6000W but current limit on 20A. The system shows a feed in of exactly 20A on L1:

Last test: grid setpoint -6000W but current limit on 25A. The system shows a feed in of 5000W or 20.2A on L1 and it will not go above that value, even if the Multi RS is hardly doing anything:

Now as soon as I disable “Energy meter support”, the feed in goes beyond 30A or 7500W, but since my main fuses are 3x25A, I cannot disable the energy meter support.

I hope this makes this bug/issue even more clear to the victron staff/developers.
And to add to this, this issue only happends during GRID FEED IN, not during feed from grid!

Hi all, the 5000W limit is a hardcoded limit/feature/bug in the Multi RS.

At the moment we have enough information to work on getting this sorted - I’ll share more information as soon as we have it.

Good to hear the problem has been found!

Any update on this?

@mpvader any update on new (beta) firmware that I can try out?

I really want to be able to feed in 25A instead of “just” 20,5A.

The error was gone at my RS6000 for 1,5 months and is now back without any change on the devices. wtf is going on here?

I found a “trick”.
When i disable the external meter setting on all multi rs for a day (this result in not using the battery if pv energy is not sufficient) the limit is gone even after i switched it on again. Last time this held for almost 2 months.

This is the feed in sum with aditional ac inverters

That doesn’t work for me. I cannot disable the external current sensor as I will blow my main fuses.

This problem has been going for over 3 months now. The max 5000W export issue has been confirmed by victron staff as a bug/software error in the Multi RS firmware. How long until this is getting fixed?

Update: just updated my 3 phase Multi RS system to firmware 1.25. Unfortunately the problem/bug/limiter is still present… :face_exhaling:
