I am trying to configure a marine solar system with 3 panels and 3 MPPT smart controllers (to help with shading). The MPPT wizard gives wildly different answers when I select MC4 or Terminal for the same panel specs. For example, with MC4 selected, it’s saying I need a 150/60 MPPT, when I select Terminal or No Preference, it says 100/20 MPPT. There is a major difference in cost and size between those MPPT controllers, I am wondering if this is a bug in the Wizard or really the MC4 has some kind of significance in the circuit. Any ideas?
It’s just that the smaller MPPT’s don’t have the option to be connected directly with MC4 plugs. That is reserved for the larger models. If you tick the MC4 box, you’ll get the smallest MPPT that has MC4 connectors.
