I am planning on expanding my solar array at a later date and was wondering if oversizing my MPPT for this intention will cause an issue starting with 2-100w panels (24V bank). I do not have alot of space to keep adding MPPTs to the system, nor did I want to keep having to install/replace them in the future.
There should not be a problem, make sure that the panels are capable of exceeding the battery voltage by 5V open circuit at maximum temperature as this is required to start charging. Your panels probably need to be in series. For a 24V bank you will need at least 33V to start charging, more to be sure under worst conditions.
Thanks for the response - panels will be in series. Deck space/storage space onboard the boat are slim. Ideally, they will be stowed while not in use hence the low wattage until a better config can be determined
