Modbus connection to Comap genset Controller

Evening all.
Scratching my head a little trying to setup my genset with cerbo.
Previous gen start was with 2 wire start from relay 1,
All worked fine and as expected, GCX displayed generator power supplied and AC load all as single phase L1 (genset is single phase)

Here is my current (new) setup:
Cerbo GX updated to 3.50, Ethernet connection to LAN and internet.
ComAp intelilite4 AMF9 controller in genset, Ethernet card installed and connected to same LAN as cerbo and firmware updated to latest.
Multiplus inverter on VE network with CGX.

ComAp Modbus registers modified (as per CGX documentation)

Communication is happening, remote start is working, fuel, oil, temperature is all reporting correctly.

However on CGX and VRM, the Generator and AC load are showing 3 phase, L1, L2, L3.
Only L1 has a reading.
Also the power reading coming from Modbus are in KW and seem to be non decimal, so let’s say it was kicking out 1.6kw, this displays as 1000w and doesn’t change until power is over 2kw then it displays 2000w.

Has anyone else experienced similar, or know if I need to use different Modbus values?

Hi,

I have a generator with the same controller and I have the same issue as you. But I think that is a limitation on the generator controller. On InteliConfig it says that power values have 0 decimals.

Can you doble check if the fuel and oil pressure values are correct for you? For me InteliConfig reports 79.3% and 1.9 bar in the fuel level and oil pressure fields while VenusOS reports 793.0% and 1.9 kPa respectively.

Maybe @ptrenz can confirm if this is the case for the power values and double check this scaling inconsistency.

Also I think it would be nice to allow decimals on the fuel tank capacity. My generator has a fuel tank of 77.5 liters.

Hi we have the same issue regarding the l1 l2 l3 and kw reading. We have no issues with sensor readings …but then again our sensors arenon the binary inputs rather than the resistive side and only function as binary on and off dor low pressure and high temp . So no actual readings ..

Hi @tomvassie and @Lewis,

for the GX to read out the correct values, the ComAp controller has to be configured to the correct Units/Power format setting under Controller configuration tab > Others > Units/Power format:

  • Units: “Metric - 20°C, 10.0 Bar, 11.4 l/h”
  • Power format: “Standard 1 kW/kVA/kVAr 1 V”

Thereby, the data provided via Modbus is indeed limited to full kW.

Regarding fuel level and oil pressure, @sebashb and I have identified the following:

  • Before ComAp firmware version 1.6.0, the fuel level was reported with wrong scaling. Please consider updating to 1.6.x, if you experience a wrong reading in the Victron system.
  • For the Oil pressure, there is a scaling/unit issue on our side, it is displayed as kPa, but the value shown is actually in bar. For this, a fix is already on the way.
