I am currently consuming around 70-80W over DC via the Lynx, but the consumption does not seem to be included in the VRM consumption or influencing the SOC from the Lynx - The VRM I can accept, but SOC?
Andy (off grid garage) reported this years ago!
He is using the normal smart shunt instead.
Why the lynx shunt can’t capture DC consumption, simply it has none priority to fix this (software) issue.
Yes @ron_h - This video proves the point. It’s worse than I thought. You can actually test it even without DC loads , if you disconnect the Multiplus from the Cerbo GX - all Multiplus consumption is considered DC and is not measured by the Lynx shunt!
The conclusion must be that the Lynx shunt measurement is based on the consumption or charging on the Multiplus and the charging by any Victron MPPT, and that the Lynx Shunt does not contain any proper shunt functionallity.
Any DC charge or discharge from any non Victron Equipment(or non connected Victron equipment) is not included.
It’s very difficult to understand why Victron have done this - I hope I am wrong.
It’s not the only reason to not a use a Lynx Shunt. It’s wildly inaccurate after just a few battery cycles that don’t fully charge the battery. We no longer use them in any of our installations and try to talk customers out of them if they request them. Victron makes a lot of great products but the Lynx Shunt is not one of them.
Maybe the problem is that the lynx shunt communicates over CAN and a smart shunt over ve direct.
But how hard can it be to subtract 2 parameters from different busses?
I real don’t know why they not simply fix issues reported here!
It can’t be human resources because they have plenty of time to create buttons or implement Shelly devices.
Please fix your own devices first!!!
And than the VRM DESS issues, very frustrated!
The system could be so much be better when these few things are fixed,…
The shunts in the Lynx Smart BMS products works as well as the SmartShunts do and they also communicate via CANbus. It’s not a communication method issues, it’s just poor hardware and firmware.
DC load is nothing more than a subtraction of 2 parameters (multiplus power to battery - lynx shunt measured power).
Andy tells in the video it works with a smart shunt, so why not with the lynx shunt?
This must be software related!
They know this already over a year now, but do give fancy graphic interfaces and shelly integration a higher priority.
Please invest a day to fix the real problems!!!
I and others do complain several months about a miscalculated (rounding issue) target SOC in VRM DESS.
We don’t want to complain every day, please just let us know when this realistic will be fixed!!!
