Layout help alternator and solar

I have a 90 amp alternator, a lead acid start battery, 200W of solar and 200ah of lifeP04 house batteries.

My thought is to have the solar charge the LifeP04 through a Smart Solar 75/15.

The out from the house batteries would go through a BatteryProtect65, which would cut power to loads at a preset voltage to prevent overdischarge (What voltage?)

The alternator would charge the house batteries through a OrionXS 12/12-50a when the vehicle was moving and the alternator was outputting power.

The (?) is where I am considering installing a Blue Seas Charge relay, this closes the connection between the start battery and the OrionXS only when the ignition switch is turned on and has a 30 second delay, it breaks contact as soon as the ignition is turned off. This way the OrionXS will not deplete the start battery trying 5to charge the house bank…

My questions are:

  1. Will this work or is it incorrect in some way?
  2. Do I need the charge control relay, or can this somehow be set in the OrionXS?
  3. Do I need the BatteryPortect, and if so, at what voltage should I have it open?
  4. Is there a simpler way to do all this?
  1. Your system is set up correct.
  2. You do not need the charge relay, connect ignition signal direct to the Orion and the Orion will only turn on when ignition is on. See the Orion manual.
  3. The battery should have an internal BMS that will shut down loads so you do not need the battery protect.
  4. You have the simplest way.

Fantastic, any suggestions on charging the start battery from the solar when parked as well?

In the UK the following DC to DC trickle chargers are available. I have the Ablemail, expensive but more programmable. No idea where you are but it may still give you ideas.
