Disable charging from shore power on Quattro 5000 with Cerbo

Using Node-RED and ChatGPT, I’ve spent far too many hours trying to create a (virtual) switch that can disable shore-power charging of the LFP batteries without blocking the charging current from the MPPT to the LFPs (the LFPs and BMS are from MG). So far, I’ve achieved this by modifying the RVSC file and uploading it via VRM.

Surely there’s no simpler method? I have the feeling that this switch is missing from the VRM screen: ‘Charger only’, ‘Inverter only’, ‘On’, ‘Off’, or similarly under ‘Quattro’ in Cerbo. Does anyone have a simple(er), workable solution? Thanks!

Do you use your VE.Bus Control node in Node-RED?

Thanks! Sure, I’ve had this one too.

Anyone got a simpler solution?

It is available on the console and on VRM if you enable the “inverter control” option under VRM settings.

Do you want to switch that ON/OFF or do you never want to charge from grid?

To switch it ON/OFF my approach would be to use the “charge current control” assistant in the Quattro and connect a simple switch or a Cervo relay to the AUX input of the Quattro.

Perhaps Solar & wind priority is the function you want

Ask the community, don’t ask AI

Thanks for the activity/replies.

I sail/live on the boat and encounter many situations where/when I do/do not want to charge.

I also aim to keep the SOC within certain limits.

Of course, I could automate whether or not to charge, but manually controlling it works perfectly well for me and takes hardly any time.

Apart from that one button, of course.

I’d rather not run more cables if it can also be done in software in a simpler way.

Switching to inverter mode means, by definition, that shore power is also disconnected, and that is precisely what I would prefer to avoid.

Pass-through is often my ideal setting for longer periods.

The LFP batteries are charged with 24 volts from the MPPT, and the batteries step in when the shore power briefly falls short.
