¿Is Cerbo GX needed for a system with Lithium NG, Lynx Smart BMS NG and Multiplus II?

Planning a new full install on a RV with the following:

  • 4 x Victron 215W solar panels
  • Victron MPPT Smart
  • Victron booster 50A (for charge from vehicle alternator)
  • 2 x Victron Lithium NG batteries in parallel
  • VIctron Lynx Smart BMS NG 500
  • Victron Multiplus II

Is the Cerbo GX needed for this system to work properly managing automatically the different power sources, etc? Or it’s not needed for better operation and only for easy monitoring and display?

Thanks

With a GX device all devices are controlled by the GX.
Without a GX you need to wire the ATC and ATD signals of the BMS to each device separately.

It’s way easier with a GX device.

You are planning a big system for a couple thousand bugs so a GX device doesn’t add that much IMO.

Thank you Matthias.

My question is mainly related to this in section 3.5.3 of the manual of the Lynx BMS NG:

3.5.3. Lynx Smart BMS NG only

For a very slim-line system, the Lynx Smart BMS NG can be used alone. This is useful if the system contains a single lithium battery or a single series string of lithium batteries together with a simple DC system.

Please also note that no GX device is used. It is not absolutely necessary for the operation of the Lynx Smart BMS NG. However, without a GX device it is impossible to control compatible inverter/chargers and MPPTs via DVCC.

And I’m afraid about this case, if the Cerbo GX is needed to control compatible Inverter/chargers and MPPTs.

It is possible but it’s more complicated to install.

I would not recommend it.
