Is a high voltage pv panel the right choice for single panel setup?

Hello there,

I am currently looking into expanding my setup with solar. Since the roofspace on my campervan is really limited I can only fit one panel. I am wondering if the use of a high voltage pv panel will improve the performance of the system over a conventional panel

What are your thoughts on this?

When you say “high voltage” I am assuming you mean above the nominal 20v that normal ‘12v’ panels are.
I went for a couple of 250w 43v panels on the boat, worked very well indeed. Advantages are that it gets above the mppt charging voltage much earlier in the day than a ‘12v’ panel so you get longer charging days.

Thank you Julian for confirming my thoughts.

That is indeed what I meant with high voltage pv panels.

Now i can start looking for the largest possible panel that will fit on my van
