IP67 12V 17A (new) stopped charging after 10 minutes

I just installed a 17A IP67 charger to our generator start battery that was at 11.9 volts. The charger slowly ramped up to 17 amps and ran for 15 minutes before it showed 14.4 volts and zero amps. The battery was still at 11.9 volts. I’ve disconnected/reconnected changed the fuse, and power cycled but it just flashes from bulk to absorption at zero amps. I have another charger on it now and it’s charging it just fine.

Any more troubleshooting that I can do or did I just get a dud?

Are you sure the battery has not dropped a cell? It should rest at 12.7V and be 13.2V when the charge is removed. The high current indicates a short in the battery. If its lead acid you should only see about 8-9amps once it reaches the 14.4V.

Sounds like the internal resistance in the battery is quite high.

Did you amp test/check what the other charger is actually doing?

Yes, the battery is now fully charged after using the other charger.

It was the fuse holder. It failed with no visual indication. I cut it out and replaced it and it works now.
