Input and output regarding Orion XS

I am configuring the setting on a Victron Orion XS which is connected to a Fogstar 300AH leisure battery.

As you probably know the input and out put current can can be configured between 0.1A to 50A

My alternator can safely supply over 50A and from what I have googled the Leisure battery would optimally accept 60A

My curiosity lies in whether it is the done thing to match the input and output currents.

Or do you have the input running higher than the output to take into account any inefficiencies

Or am I safe to surmise that I could run my system at 50A for both input and output?.

Is there any benefit to the life of the system if the current is reduced to say 40A for both the input and output or a combination of the two which is less than maximum.

Chris…

No need to set them both, either input if the alternator is the limit or output if the battery is. Remember if it has to boost the voltage from say 13.6V alternator to 14.2V output the input current will be higher to compensate. If you find the alternator getting too hot then reduce the input current.

If the alternator can do it and the battery can take it. Leave it at 50A.
