How many VE.Direct to USB dongles can be connected to raspberry pi 4 running Venus OS?

hi there

I have one Victron Energy VE.Direct to USB dongle that is connected to raspberry pi version 4 that is running Venus OS. Raspberry pie has 4 USB ports and I believe 2 ports are 2.0 version and other 2 ports are 3.0 version, if that matters. This dongle works just fine with Victron 100|50 smart solar charger.

But, I also have 100|50 blue solar charger that is also connected to the same battery bank. Can I add another Victron Energy VE.Direct to USB dongle to this second charger, because raspberry pi has 4 USB ports and only one port is in use now?

If this is doable I may also ad a third smart solar charger to a third port as I also have 100|15 charger that goes to a separate battery bank and it would be nice to be able to monitor all of 3 chargers via Victron connect.

is this doable?

Hi,
You can use a DUPPA USB – UART Converter with 4 isolated ports to connect multiple MPPTs to one USB port.

More information on how to connect it can be found on the off-grid-garage YouTube channel and website BMS Communication – the Off-Grid-Garage

On my RPi 3+ I use all 4 ports as follows.

MPPT controller

Smart Shunt

IP22 charger (modified)

GPS puck

All work fine with no errors now I’m using Victron cables and not ones I built.

thank you for your feedback. I think my setup should work.

great info! thank you.
