Probably simple, but I use Grid in to charge at low rates, and AC out 2 not used. Can Gen go to AC out2 to get me over a month while I turn this 5000GX model and decomission the first 5000 which has all the solar panels connected.
You should not connect an gen to ac out 2, system is not designed for that
Usually they are connected with a change over switch so you can switch on the input. This is the better way as the system can control what it is pulling from the generator.
The inverter is bi directional (that is how AC PV is used) so it is possible to connect it on the ac2 out to charge a battery, however you can damage things if care is not taken.
Some scenarios for example is what happens when the battery is full? or if lithium it disconnects its charge circuit? There has to be some control or disconnect.
Tks for the quick responses. I might just suffer a few weeks without solar. Tks again. Willie, Ireland.
If you are stuck with no grid or solar, this is an option. Just not for a full charge.
@LX A generator should NOT EVER be connected on AC out 2 of a Multiplus: The generator is a grid forming unit, and while the Inverter is bidirectional, it requires any connected source (PV inverter) to be a grid following unit.
If you want separate AC inputs for AC in and Gen in, then you either need a transfer switch or a Quatro, which has 2 AC inputs for this purpose.
Ty. Quatro handy option, but I’ll stick to being safe, and await 2 multiplus connection via ve.bus. if you read about random explosion in Cork, Ireland, probably me.
If you connect 2 multiplus units in parallel, with the VE-bus connected, you still should not connect the grid to one AC input and the gen to the other. The AC inputs are also intended to be paralleled, and fed from one AC source. If you need to switch the multi’s between the grid and a generator, then please use a transfer switch.
Agree. The gen option was just they are remote, I do not have a Gen and never intend to. Trying to get off fossil fuel. No worries. Cheers.
