Feature Request: MPPT Charging Priority

Since several years the charging priority of the ESS System was not changed and is still the MP2 even if a MPPT is in place.

So this ends up in situations where the MP2 is charging the battery and the MPPTs are in idle. So energy is wasted and the more efficient DC-DC charging of the MPPTs are not used (because they are ramped down first)

I placed several feature requests in the old community without any effect, so maybe it is time for a new one (and hopefully Victron will react at one day)

I’ve never encountered a setup like yours before. Could you share details about your configuration?

My system uses MPPTs with grid-tied solar, and I rely on DVCC to manage charge current. I calculate the total charge current needed for the entire day to reach 100% SOC by around 3 PM. The MPPT solar handles the base load continuously, and when the batteries require additional current beyond what solar provides, my internal charger automatically engages to make up the deficit.

Based on my experience with this approach, it sounds like there may be a configuration issue with your system. The coordination between multiple charge sources should be seamless when properly set up.

Simple Setup.

3phase ESS with MP2 5000 and one RS450. AC coupled Fronius PV
CVL Limit so the battery is charged over the day ( do not need to reach 100% at the end), just simple CCCV charging (charging current will ramp down by its own when reaching CVL)
No DC Feed in
AC Feed in active
Feed in Limit active (grid limit)
MPPTs are ramped down to zero watts quite soon and charing is done by the MP2 only for the rest of the day.

I wonder if you can enable feedin of excess DC and set the max to 0W and spoof it. It think that might be your problem.

There is something off there. Mppts do not operate like that unless there is an installation or config issue.

If I enable DC Feed In i can not longer rely on the CVL because of the additional 0.4V the dc feed in function will add

Ok, so what is off?

Ok so nothing?

Sad that Victron does not support the very basic constant voltage charching for two different charger types (MPPT and MP2) out of the box.
