I have a problem with my Victron EV Charging Station in both in manuel and auto mode. My VRM ID : c0619ab4a258
Symptoms:
When the charging current goes above approximately 15-16 A, the charger starts cycling On/Off going from 16 or more amp to 0 every ~20 seconds especially when batteries are pretty much full (above 93 or 94 %).
Below 15 A it works fine and stably both in auto and manual mode.
What I have already checked / tried:
Home Assistant is completely stopped → no change, the cycling continues → not related to HA.
stopped node red related automation
unplug and replug my Tesla
restart EVCS and upgrade to latest firmware 2.09
does the same with my wife’s BMW I3
My setup:
Single phase ESS setup with Multiplus II 5000 (firmware 556) with 4 pylontech 5kw battery running firmware 3.80 on GX
RS 450 and Fronius 5.0 approximately 10 000 w solar panels
evcs on ac output side firmware 2.09, wired with 3G16mm2 and 40 amp circuit breaker.
Settings EVCS :
max charging current limit : 32
input curretn limit : 40
allow battery/grid power for auto mode : enabled
allow low excess solar power for auto mode : enabled
overload protection disabled
Has anyone experienced this specific behaviour (stable below ~15-16 A and rapid On/Off cycling above)?Any advice on which settings to change or if this is a known issue would be greatly appreciated.
Has this got load balancing/load curtailment functionality? If so what is it capped too? So ignore what I just said there! According to AI it’s linked to the multiplus’s input limit , so I would say see what your limit is set to and does it do it when home batteries are not charging also?
It has overload protection. That reads the inverter’s overload status or the grid input current limit and reacts by dropping the charge current to minimum or stopping it entirely until the overload clears. It is reactive, not proactive, and it does not continuously share headroom with other household loads the way a dedicated load-balancing charger does.
I dont think it’s linked to multiplus limit as at the time Its doint it’s on/off problem theres is plenty of solar and I should only charge through the excess solar …
Overload protection is disabled so It shouldn’t be a problem ALSO
The pic you posted the multiplus doesn’t seem to be charging the batteries up that much as it’s only 400 odd watts.
So meaning the amps for the charger could go higher, But the integration of this charger to the multiplus is new to me as I’ve only used independent third parties chargers with the Victron system, I’ve only used AI to tell me if it has load curtailment or balancing but it seems to suggest they are linked to the multiplus input limit, someone that has a charger may pipe up but I would suggest maybe looking at the EV topics and maybe linking someone from one of those topics to yours in the hope they see it and can offer assistance
