Dynamic ESS and generator

I use Dyn. ESS on MP2.
Does anyone have a hint how i can disable ESS fast when i switch to generator?
When i switch to gen now MP thinks there is grid and either does not charge at all or begins to send energy to the gen. Depending on what it is trying to do. This behavior is normal when on the grid, but absolutely very bad when on a gen.
I am thinking of buying a second MP and connect the gen there and use this MP to charge the batteries. This would also solve some problems the MP had now with the gen (gen is not always accepted bij the MP, but when connected to a second MP i can modify the input parameters to what ever).
Any advice.

Unfortunately this is what the Quattro is for.
Its challenging in this configuration to configure the single input on a multi to fulfill two different roles.
No easy way around it.
You can reprogram it with veconfigure but that isn’t dynamic or seamless.
You can try switching the inverter to charger only.

What about my workaround?
Connecting a separate 48 volt charger to the gen, and using this as a “dc source” in cerbo to charge the batteries
Problem is that i can not find a decent 70+ ampère charger besides a second multi or that extremely pricy charger from victron. And it is only for emergencies witch are rare here.
Lookt all over. Maybe you kbow of one? Does, not have to be a victron.

There are people that have done installs like that, it isn’t supported though to have multiple independent systems sharing a battery. Being a Victron forum we try to recommend supported and best practice configurations.

Ok i understand that
But they would not be sharing a battery. It would just be a dc source. Like a windmill. Victron even has a separate entry in cerbo enable it.

This is sharing batteries.
Multis can’t also be used without a battery.
Some people have used a multiphase system, with switch as a group disabled to get around issues like this, but that disables ESS…

Simplest solution is to try upgrade to a quattro and resell your current gear, or run an unsupported system and live with the trade-offs and consequences.

Thanks.
I have no problems with exchanging my gear for a Quattro but i have not been investigating the quattro. I have to first then do a lot of reading and youtubing to get myself up to date.
Can you tell: if i use a Quattro will i still be able to use all the nice little plug-ins the MP has? For example DESS, relay controll, node red, my cerbo, generator on off on soc etc?
In other words: is it an upgrade, downgrade or just something completely different? Can i still use the standard victron tools?

They are identical, it just has two AC inputs, one which takes priority, so you can completely customise the genset input to be generator friendly so ESS isn’t an issue.

There are several parameters that help a generator vs a normal grid, that’s why the quattro is the supported and best practice solution for your use case.

Thanks. I will look into it.

I have a new problem that i do not understand.
When using dess the system makes load sounds and swiches of rhe invertor. It then starts again to do it all over.
Yesterday it workt perfectly

When i shut off dess and the system stops delivering to grid it becones normal again.
The can be repeated.
No errors on cerbo or mail

Tested it now several times. Once i switch on dyn dns the system starts to do this
Lights flicker, a stong humming sound and then it is over for a few seconds
No heavy load jn my house.
This is something i can not solve.
Can you help?

I wouldn’t mix two different problems. Rather open a DESS one on the DESS category.
