DIY VE.Direct cables?

I have a Cerbo GX MkII, a SmartShunt, and two Orion XS 50s maintaining a pair of AGM batteries. I thought I had recalled that the SmartShunt and Orions came with cables, but those are power cables or something and not VE.Direct cables.

I see that VE.Direct uses standard connectors and that Victron charges a lot for their cables. Are VE.Direct cables anything more than two connectors and the right conductors? Most of the commercial cables I see are very short. I need two 10 footers and one 30 foot cable.

Aftermarket / DIY cables are obviously not supported so you’re on your own with that, if you have an extensive amount of time to kill and good Google and cable making and testing capabilities you could probably whip something up at your own risk.

Genuine VE.Direct cables are available in lengths from 1’ up to 32.8’ (10m).

Is there more to them than wires and connectors, as in electronics to negotiate speed or identity?

Negative, they’re just data cables.
