DESS and consumption forecast

I have configuration built on MPII/5000 powering energy storage based on Seplos V4 + separate PV from SolarEdge.

Started using DESS to manage storage charging/discharging and I have few doubts and questions:

  • seems like charging forecast is totally off real usage
  • what is weird consumption model does not fit any of my patterns
  • past usages (not forecast) combines battery charging and base loads as consumption
  • If we look at this combined usage then predictions are right (but I understand battery charging should not be included in it - right?)
  • I tried to reset statistics, but it didn’t help
  • My usual pattern is almost flat (~1-2 kWh/h) with few spikes in the morning and late evening. Predictions are totally inverted

Right, I have a moment now. If your charging parameters don’t match reality, your DESS won’t work properly. It is crucial to ensure that the values ​​entered during the initial configuration are ones that are actually achievable. Many people make the mistake of entering the maximum values ​​listed in the data sheets. That is incorrect; you should enter the values ​​you actually achieve in practice. Secondly… regarding the consumption forecast, you need to be patient. The ESS needs to run continuously—without being reset—to generate reasonably realistic figures. Over time, you will find that it levels out somewhat. Not every hourly consumption figure will be exact, but the consumption totals will align more closely with reality.

Is there any DESS guide i can follow? I entered values I feel right (like max discharge is in fact limited by multiplus not battery). I’ll try to be patient then

As far as I know, there is a DESS manual. I got involved with the beta version about three years ago, so I can’t give you precise details on the specific guidelines. The issue of charging power can be a bit tricky because so many factors can influence it: maximum current or voltage settings, the BMS, potentially the wiring, and the maximum output of the charging equipment (which also depends on temperature). Ultimately, the battery doesn’t always accept the same amount of power—for instance, the rate drops off when it’s nearly full. As I mentioned, it can be a bit of a hassle. The important thing is to enter a realistic value—one that is actually achievable in practice.

Here is what I’ve found: there isn’t a single perfect value for charging power, nor a perfect way to determine it—it’s more or less a matter of approximation. If that helps.
