DC to DC charger in parrallel

Hi there

It is a query in regard to the installation of DC-DC chargers in parallel one to the Lithium house battery bank and one to the Starter battery bank.

Is the installation, as per attached diagram, would be detrimental to any equipment i.e. batteries, alternator, charger or other? The alternator is not smart type.

The purpose of this would be to protect the starter battery bank in case of a alternator mal function and also as I am currently motoring a lot due to lack of wind I find that once the house battery bank is fully charged the starter battery bank seems to overheat as it then received the full amperage from the alternator.

Could you please advise if the installation as per the diagram is suitable or any suggestions.

Cheers

Not having a (lead) battery directly across the alternator puts the alternator at risk of damage. If the starter battery is overheating, then check the voltage form the alternator, this should not be greater than 14.4V in a 12v system. If the voltage is greater than that, then the alternator needs a new regulator.
Also be careful about using an MPPT (solar type) for a wind generator, wind generators need a dump load for excess energy if the batteries are fully charged.
