Continue with Missing Phase is Missing the Point

Hi,

I had to remove a Multi RS from a three phase installation for an RMA (safety relays unhealthy without having PV ever connected).

I thought this should be easy as continue with missing phase was enabled and I only have single phase loads. I could bond two phases, as all cables are sized sufficiently. Switch as a group is also disabled, though the system runs predominantly off grid.

I shut everything down, made it electrically safe, removed the unit, and restored the CAN connections (the 2 inverters and Cerbo in the chain).

Starting up seemed fine, but 0V output on AC Out. There were no errors on Victron Connect or the Remote GUI. I then changed number of inverters to 2 and restarted the system. Only then did I noticed on the Multi RS LCD: “Not enough inverters for synchronised operation” (or something to that effect).

I had to reconfigure the remaining 2 inverters for standalone operation with different instances. This will work temporarily during the RMA process.

My question is: how is “Continue with Missing Phase” supposed to work? Only on initial failure? It seems once the system reboots, you aren’t capable of restarting with 2 inverters.

The documentation states warnings about synchronisation, but states it will continue to operated. It does not mention that it will refuse to start.

I think there are some shortcomings to functionality in here, that a warning in the documentation won’t fix.

Did you also set minimum number of inverters to start?

Required number of inverters to start is set as 1 (per phase). It seems to still expect one per phase for all three to start
